             Operation Overlord 1993

Nato Briefing
-------------
World War III has happened and Nato has all but lost. Soviet armies have
reestablished control of Eastern Europe and added Norway, West Germany,
the Netherlands, Belgium, and Iceland to their empire. Under intense
diplomatic pressure and the threat of an imminent invasion, Britain, France
and Spain have withdrawn from NATO and declared strict neutrality. Only
the U.S. and Canada refuse to let the war end this way.
We have transferred some U.S. naval assets from the Pacific in order to replace
the grave losses suffered in the Atlantic. The Commander-In-Chief feels that a
bold action now may bring Britain and France out of neutrality and back to our
side. You are to mount an amphibious invasion of Iceland. Using your two
carriers you are to attain air superiority and escort an amphibious group and
a merchant convoy to Keflavik and protect them there for at least 24 hours. You
can expect opposition by aircraft, submarine and surface forces. Submarines wil
most likely be first-line units, because most of the older subs were destroyed
early in the war. In addition Soviet surface forces may dare to move south of
Iceland into the open Atlantic.

Soviet Briefing
---------------
We have won the war and have forced all the NATO countries in Europe to declare
Neutrality or to join the recreated Warsaw Pact. Only the U.S. navy represents
any threat to our western European interests. Intelligence suggests that they
may attempt an invasion of Iceland. You are to oppose that invasion with all
the forces at your disposal These include aircraft in Iceland, Norway and the
Kola peninsula; several first-line submarines that have broken out into the
Atlantic, and a surface task force near Iceland. You can expect the invasion to
be supported by at least 2 aircraft carriers, but these are secondary targets.
Your primary mission is to destroy the amphibious units and the merchants
backing them up.
